NEW SCHOOL YEAR 2014-2015 (Updated on : 11th August 2014)
Dear Parents / Guardians,
We look forward to a new school year and we hope all our students are well prepared for their return in a few days time. I thank in advance all parents and guardians who have worked hard over the summer to provide for books, uniform and school equipment. Your input and support for the school is appreciated and helps us maintain our high standards.
We ask all parents to read this notice carefully as there are a few reminders we wish to bring to your attention in advance of our students starting:
Journals and Lockers
We thank all parents and guardians for arranging for lockers for the coming year. Students will be given their official school journals on Day 1. All students must have their journals signed once a week and all 1st year students must have their journals signed every night. This is to encourage students to get in to good homework and study habits. Students who have paid the rental fee for the locker will be assigned a locker during their first few days of the term. If you still have not arranged this and wish for your son to have a locker please contact the school immediately as we have student locker lists ready. Lockers which are not rented will be removed in advance of the school opening therefore it is important to arrange this as soon as possible.
Uniform
All students are requested to adhere to the full school uniform. I thank the members of the Parents Association who organise the uniform sale each year on a voluntary basis. 5th & 6th year students are reminded that the school uniform trousers are grey trousers. Students who come to school at the beginning of the New Year in black or non-uniform trousers will be sent home immediately. All students are reminded to wear black polishable shoes, without stripes, logos or decoration. Students who do not comply with this rule will also be sent home at the beginning of the year.
School office
The school office will no longer be able to accept or keep articles left in for students nor will announcements be made for lunches, keys, equipment , gear and so on be made. This has become a significant inconvenience for the office staff; therefore we kindly request your assistance with this.
Book Grant
Funds for the costs of purchasing school books and equipment are still available. I invite parents to complete the book grant form and to send it in to the school.
Afterschool Study
Afterschool study will start in September. Application forms and rules will be available from the Deputy Principal’s office. We strongly encourage our Junior and Leaving Certificate students to sign up for study as we believe the academic success of the students is greatly increased through regular and effective studying.
School Canteen
The school canteen will not open until the end of the month. Students must bring in their lunch and eat their lunch in the assigned areas. All first year students take their breaks in the first year resource area. 2nd and 3rd years take their breaks in the hall. TY, 5th & 6th year students will be assigned classes. Students, parents and guardians are reminded that students who eat / drink outside of their assigned areas will be fined €5. We ask for your full cooperation on this as this arrangement ensures the school and the school grounds are kept free of litter and are well maintained. Students may apply for a lunchtime pass; however this is only for students who wish to go home. Students who leave the school premises at break times to go to local shops or amenities will be suspended and / or have their lunchtime pass revoked.
Medical conditions & Administration of medication.
We kindly request that parents /guardians contact the school through the relevant Year head of any medication that your son will carry on their person in the school or if there is a requirement for any medication to be kept on the school premises. Please ensure this is notified to the school as soon as possible so that the appropriate arrangements can be made.
Subject Options
5th year option classes will be posted on the new student notice board which are along the main corridor by the Sólás Room. All student notices, games fixtures, timetables and so on will be placed on these notice boards from now on.
We wish all our students an excellent new academic year, thank you.
Ms. Kearns, Principal
