MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Friends,
Welcome to our website at Salesian College, Celbridge. It is our hope that the website will benefit all connected with the school – students, teachers, parents, Salesians, past pupils and friends of the school. Salesian College first opened its doors to students in September 1981 and since then has been educating the young men of Celbridge and its surrounding areas. Over the years students have gone on to take their place in the workplace, the academic world and society itself and we take great pride in what they have achieved. The school ethos nurtures the holistic development of the person. This is based on the Christian belief that each of us is loved by God and therefore worthy of respect. We want every young person who enters our College to enjoy the process of learning and to benefit from it. In the Salesian approach to education, the relationship between the young person and their teacher / coach / mentor is central. We have an excellent staff who work hard to meet the needs of the young people in their care. Currently we offer the following courses: Junior Certificate; Transition Year; Leaving Certificate; Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational Preparation. Much work has been done in recent years to assist students with special needs. The school has one autistic class. Resource teachers and special needs assistants are all part of the staff. The school's 700 students also enjoy many extra-curricular activities. The school has achieved much in sport, drama, debates, light entertainment, science and technology. Don Bosco, the founder of the Salesian Society wanted his schools to be place of empowerment, learning, and happiness for all. In his schools Don Bosco also stressed the spiritual growth and development of the young person. Day to day interactions were to be built around key values – being reasonable, the practice of one's religious values and loving kindness.
