LC MUSIC
Music at leaving Cert level gives students the opportunity to study a broad range of music over the two years of senior cycle.
All topics are taught through Composition, Listening and Performance. 
Some topics included:

  • Set works from Berlioz, The Beatles, Raymond Deane and Mozart.
  • Irish Music
  • Melody
  • Harmony
  • Performance skills
  • Music Technology



Exam Structure at Higher Level:
  1. Compostion paper (25%)
  2. Listening paper (25%)
  3. Performance exam (25%)
  4. Students chose one of the following electives at higher level - Listening, Composition, Performance, or Music Technology) (25%)


Most students opt for the performance elective which brings the performance part of their exam up to 50% of the overall Leaving Cert exam. This usually takes place just before or after Easter each year. 
Why Study Music at Leaving Cert:
  • Students can get up to 50 per cent of the total marks in the musical activity that best suits them before they even sit the written paper in June.
