FORM TEACHER AND YEAR HEAD

The school operates a Form Teacher and Year Head system. Students meet as a class with their Form Teacher each morning when the class roll is taken and there is the opportunity for students and teachers to raise issues of concern.

Well Being
This time, between the students and their form teachers, is a crucial and important time for  the well-being of the students and for the effective day-to-day running of the school. It allows us, as a school, to instil good working practices, punctuality, proper use of the journal, pass on announcements, school prayer and gives us a short window of time each day to project our ethos of pastoral care and reason in a positive manner. It is an extremely important role for the form teachers as it gives teachers the opportunity to get to know their students on a regular and organised basis. Form teachers can develop and foster their role as a guide and source of support, knowledge and example.

Schedule for Well Being
  • Monday – Friday
  • TIME: 8.52-9.00am
  • Bell rings at 8.52 to indicate the start of well being time and at 9.00am to indicate the end of well being time.
  • Classes are named after significant Salesian figures - Bosco, Savio, Dominic, and Irish saints- Kevin, Colm and Patrick.
  • Students immediately take out their journals and open them at the correct week.
  • Students are asked to show any notes re absenteeism, lateness or other correspondence from parents.
  • All First Year students should have their journals signed EVERY night for the first year.
  • All other year groups should have their journals signed every week.
  • All Form Teachers are asked to collect the journals every week to check them.

Procedures for Students who Arrive Late to School
  • Students who arrive between 8.52 and 9.00 go to their form teacher who will mark them late.
  • Students who arrive after 9.00 must sign the Late Book and Stamp their journals at the Deputy-Principal’s office.
  • The student presents this to his immediate subject teacher in his first class of the day and that teacher signs over the stamp. This must be done on entering the class.
  • Should a student arrive in school after the first class has ended he must present his journal to the Deputy-Principal for his signature. If the Deputy-Principal is not available the student should seek the Principal. The student will be given a letter for his parents/guardians by the Deputy-Principal seeking an explanation for his late arrival in the school. This must be presented to the Deputy-Principal the next school day.
  • Form teachers check journals the day after a student has been late.
  • A student who leaves school for an appointment must sign out. If he returns to school that day the student must sign the Late Book and Stamp his journal and present the journal to his immediate subject teacher. This must be done on entering the class.
